Barack Obama is not Muslim

The point of writing this post is to simply attempt to sway just one person away from the smears that have begun--and continue--against Barack Obama. Namely, that Barack Obama is a Muslim, that he doesn't pledge allegience to our flag, blah blah blah, all of it unsubstantiated and baseless. Whether these lies were actually started by the Clinton campaign or the usual right-wing culprits doesn't matter ... what matters is they're false. Hopefully, this'll reach just one curious person and sway them in the direction of the truth.

Lie #1: "Obama is a Muslim." Obama is NOT a muslim, you idiots. Obama attends a Christian Church and went to a public school. Just because that school had Muslim kids doesn't mean it was a Muslim school. This lie was started by Insightmag.com in an attempt to provide an early smear for conservatives and ignorant voters to latch onto. His father is no longer a Muslim, either. And his mother has always been Christian.

Lie #2: "Obama doesn't pledge allegiance to our flag." Yes, he does. As a matter of fact, Obama has led the pledge of allegiance in the Senate a number of times. Go ahead and look it up. No, don't go to Rush Limbaugh's website. No, don't go to Insightmag.com. Go to a real Web site with real information and facts.

In the interest of fairness, I should point out that I support John Edwards, not Barack Obama. However, after receiving the rather chilling chain letter from my grandma (of all people) regarding these Obama smears, I do want to try and do something positive about it. Smearing Obama and attacking him at this level is disgusting, and if he is nominated at the Democratic nominee, I'll more than happily support him. And if he is nominated, smears like this are only going to get worse. That means we need to confront them now before it's too late.
